BeiDou navigation satellites


The third BeiDou navigation and position satellite was successfully launched in May, 2003. It means China has built a complete satellite navigation system independently. This system plays an active role in our national economy. BeiDou Navigation Satellite System is an all-day, all-weather regional navigation system with Chinese characteristics. The satellite navigation information provided by the system can be used for transportation, command and control, real-time GIS services. It has brought significant benefits by deepening and extending applications. The second generation of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System is under construction.

China has launched the first and second satellites of the second generation of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System into space in 2007 and 2009 respectively. In January 2010, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) launched the third networking satellite for BeiDou Navigation Satellite System on a LM-3C launch vehicle at Xichang Satellite Launching Center. In June 2010, CASC launched the forth networking satellite for BeiDou Navigation Satellite System on a LM-3C Y4 launch vehicle at Xichang Satellite Launching Center. In August 2010, CASC launched the fifth networking satellite for BeiDou Navigation Satellite System on a LM-3A Y16 launch vehicle at Xichang Satellite Launching Center. In November 2010, the sixth BeiDou networking satellite was successfully launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
