Recently, China’s CH-5 UAV made its maiden flight successfully in Gansu Province, marking that China's largest UAV system with piston power, medium-altitude and long endurance was developed successfully, which has laid a solid foundation for the Rainbow UAV to develop to be a highly sophisticated UAV product. Also known as Rainbow 5, the CH-5 was developed by China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

The Rainbow-5 UAV system is a versatile UAV platform, and is large medium-altitude, long endurance UAV system. It mainly conducts a long time reconnaissance and surveillance, electronic warfare, reconnaissance and strike integrated tasks. The Rainbow-5 UAV platform based on the Rainbow series UAV mature technology used the concept innovation, which can meet the needs for the improvement of the domestic medium- and high-altitude UAV and for the combined reconnaissance and strike of the international market. Compared with the Rainbow-4 UAV, its various performance indicators have been substantially increased, having a high load capacity, long endurance, high reliability, strong ability to expand and other outstanding features. It is a highly sophisticated UAV product of the domestic UAV system.
