BEIJING, July 28 (China Space News) — China launched the project of building its first Wideband Global Satellite Communication (WG SATCOM) System Thursday to enhance its Internet communication capabilities in railway, air and maritime transportation services.
Jointly initiated by Shenzhen municipal government and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the first WG SATCOM is a ten billion yuan project combining satellite communications with high-throughput broadband services. "By the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2020), we will launch two satellites to cover the Americas, Europe and Africa, in order to form a global wideband SATCOM system," said Cheng Guangren, expert in the application of satellite communications from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
