FY-3B Satellite Goes into Official Operation

BEIJING, May 27 (China Space News) — An in-orbit delivery ceremony for the Fengyun-3B (FY-3B) meteorological satellite was held at the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense on May 26, marking the day the satellite officially went into operation.
The FY-3B satellite, launched on November 5 last year, was transferred from China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) to China Meteorological Administration (CMA) after a six-month flawless trial operation in space.
The transfer means China's weather satellite system has reached the international advanced level, said a CMA official.
The FY-3B will join the FY-3A, another polar-orbiting sun-synchronous satellite that was launched earlier, to create a comprehensive weather satellite system. With the FY-3B in place, the newly-established system can transmit global meteorological data every 6 hours, improving China's ability to monitor the Earth's weather and environment.
