PAKSAT-1R Starts Commercial Operations

BEIJING, Nov. 9 (China Space News) — Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Nov. 5 announced that Pakistani communications satellite Paksat-1R had started commercial operations.
He made the announcement at a special ceremony in Lahore, Pakistan, organized by China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) and the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) of Pakistan.
A Long March-3B carrier rocket carried the satellite into space on Aug. 12 from Xichang Satellite Launch Center. After orbital transfer and testing, it was positioned at 37.8°E in the geostationary orbit and has since been operating smoothly, according to CGWIC.
PAKSAT International (Pvt) Ltd., the commercial arm of SUPARCO, will operate Paksat-1R, which will replace the existing satellite Paksat-1.
AKSAT-1R has 30 transponders with three communication antennas to cover South Asia, the Middle East, eastern Africa and some regions of Europe.
