China Launches Environment-monitoring Satellite Huanjing-1C

BEIJING, Nov. 19 (China Space News) — A Long March-2C carrier rocket carrying an environment-monitoring satellite Huanjing-1C blasted off from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Taiyuan, capital of north China's Shanxi Province, Nov. 19, 2012.
The Huanjing-1C satellite was developed by China Academy of Space Technology, a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).
The satellite and the other two satellites Huanjing-1A and Huanjing-1B, which were sent to the outer space in 2008, will be used to monitor the environment and help reduce natural disasters.
Other satellites launched together with Huanjing-1C were the New Technology Demonstration Satellite and the Fengniao Satellite, which will be used for in-orbit test demonstration of many new technologies.
Monday's launch marked the 171th mission of China's Long March series of rockets.
