China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation has launched a bursting test to assess and verify the reliability of a new generation of rocket fuel tank in Beijing on Wednesday, collecting experimental data and causality for delving into next generation of carrier rockets.

The purpose of the test was to assess and verify the performance of the newly-developed rocket fuel tank in an extreme environment.

During the test, liquid nitrogen was added into the rocket tank and then the internal gas pressure was gradually mounting until the internal structure and the outer shell were damaged, so as to determine the maximum external pressure the tank can withstand.

"This is part of our design. The test is successful, allowing us to understand the tank's maximum bearing capacity to external pressure and obtain some data on temperature and stress. It has proved that our design is reliable and can support the flight of our future rockets," said Zhang Rongzhe, test commander at a unit of a research institute under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.
