BEIJING, Oct. 25 (China Space News) — China's first high-definition earth observation satellite "Gaofen-1" has completed more than five months' on-orbit testing and has been put into use officially, according to the National Science and Technology Major Project Center.
By improving the precision and timeliness of data provision, the satellite could play an important role in land resources surveying, comprehensive agriculture utilization, environmental protection as well as disaster relief.
Developed by the China Academy of Space Technology, Gaofen-1 was carried into space on a Long March-2D carrier rocket from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China’s Gansu Province on April 26.
